Wounded Army Soldier Criticizes Govt For Inattention

A young member of the Afghan National Army who has sustained injuries in a mission against militants said it is almost one year that he is seeking help from the Ministry of Defense to provide him his pension and other privileges, but his demand was rejected by relevant officials.

Nazifullah said he has been wounded three times in three incidents in southern Helmand province, but the last incident in volatile Sangin district maimed his leg and got his eyesight.

He said that his name was included in the list of fallen soldiers after he was wounded in an IED blast in Helmand, therefore, the Ministry of Defense cut off his privileges.

Nazifullah said he worked in a media organization before he joined the Afghan Army two years ago.

He said that he has no family member to help him and his children.

According to him, he once took a letter signed by the acting defense minister but his letter was rejected by military hospital’s officials.

Nazifullah said he is trying to meet President Ghani for addressing his problem.

This comes as Acting Defense Minister Assadullah Khalid has reiterated many times that wounded soldiers, as well as families of fallen soldiers, will not be “forgotten” and their problems will be addressed on time.

Government figures show that at least 45,000 members of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces paid the ultimate sacrifice in their fight against terrorist groups since 2014.
