Tourist Visits to Herat Museum Surge

Officials of the Herat Museum said that recently there has been an increase in visits by both foreign and domestic tourists to this museum.

According to their numbers, in the past year, fourteen thousand domestic and foreign tourists have visited this museum.

Isabela Calado, a Portuguese tourist who came to visit the historical artifacts and remains of Afghanistan at the Herat Museum, called the country's historical remains unparalleled.
Before coming to Herat, she also visited Kabul and Bamyan.

Isabela Calado told TOLOnews: "This museum is a natural history. We saw the history of Afghanistan around here. We walked on the towers and pathways up there. I enjoyed my time here a lot."

The Herat Museum, existing for more than a hundred years, houses nearly three thousand historical remains.

While there has been an increase in visits by foreign tourists to this museum, the visitation of Afghan women and girls to this museum is prohibited.

"The Herat Museum is located in the Citadel of Herat. Most of the historical remains in this museum are from periods dating back more than six thousand years ago, including the Samanids, Ghaznavids, Timurids, Seljuks, and the contemporary period," said Abdul Jabbar Noorzi, the director of the Herat Museum.

"The Herat Museum was established more than a hundred years ago during the time of King Amanullah Khan. This museum houses three thousand historical artifacts from different historical periods," said Abdul Qayum Waziri, a cultural activist.

According to the museum official, in the course of the past two years, five hundred historical artifacts have been collected from people and transferred to this museum.
