Efforts Ongoing to Release 65 Containers from Karachi Port

The Embassy of Afghanistan in Islamabad said that efforts to release 65 held containers of Afghan traders at Karachi port continue.

Sardar Ahmad Shakib, the chargé d'affaires of the Islamic Emirate's embassy in Islamabad, said that the official from the Ministry of Commerce of Pakistan in charge of Afghan affairs pledged the release of 65 containers of Afghan traders' goods during a meeting with the political and economic attaché of the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad.

"Our request in the meeting was to release the blocked containers ... they promised to solve this problem and mentioned that the reason for the containers' halt was a technical issue," Shakib said.

According to Shakib, efforts are also underway to address visa challenges for Afghan drivers in Pakistan.

The Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) called for the increased facilitation of Afghan trade with Pakistan.

"Seeing the situation on both sides of the border, no one is encouraged to invest. The second issue is that traders on both sides of the border are suffering losses amounting to millions of afghanis and dollars," said Mirwais Hotak, the head of the board of ACCI.

"Our trade with Pakistan has become very distrustful because Pakistan always imposes restrictions and limitations. we ask the Islamic Emirate to address this problem as soon as possible," said Zalmay Azimi, a trader.

Previously, Indian media reported that due to border tensions and the ten-day closure of the Torkham border, trade relations between Afghanistan and India decreased, leading to an increase in the prices of Afghan goods in the Indian market.
