Major Investments Made in Mining Sector: Ministry

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum reported that an investment of ten billion afghani has been made in 150 small mines and 7 billion US dollars in 30 large mines.

Homayoun Afghan, the spokesperson for the ministry, stated that over 150,000 people are also employed in the Afghan mining sector.

The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum spokesperson said, "In total, in all the projects of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, job opportunities have been provided for 150,000 people, both directly and indirectly. In addition to these, we have the extraction of precious stones, gold washing areas, oil and gas extraction, contracts of various scales, and mines in different provinces and for various minerals."

The Chamber of Commerce and Investment said the mines contracted by the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum with domestic and foreign companies have had a positive impact on the country's economic development.

Khan Jan Alokozai, a member of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) board, said: "The precious and semi-precious mines, most of which are now semi-precious and have been contracted out, have a positive impact on our national economy and should continue to grow."

Some economic experts emphasized the refinement of minerals within the country, adding that establishing refineries in the country will not only create jobs for people but also will promote economic growth.

Abdul Nasir Reshtia, an economic expert, said: "Mines are one of the very important and fundamental sectors. If processing and production are done within the country, and then we think about exporting them, it could bring more benefits to Afghanistan and our economy, rather than exporting these minerals as raw materials to other countries."

According to information from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, 150 small mines have been contracted to domestic companies, and 30 large mines have been contracted to Chinese, Iranian, Turkish, Qatari, and other countries with Afghan partners.
