Zahir Akbari, the newly appointed head of the provincial office of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) for Kabul has resigned after accusing the head of the secretariat of the commission of being corrupt.

Akbari said this was the main reason for him stepping down.

In a social media post, he has labeled the IEC secretariat as a corrupt administration and a mafia circle.
