Over 1,000 Died From Respiratory Diseases in 2024: MoPH

The Ministry of Public Health reported that in the first three months of 2024, more than a thousand people have died due to respiratory diseases in the country.

In addition to the death toll, over 500,000 others have also been infected with respiratory diseases, of which more than 300,000 are children under five years old.

Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, told TOLOnews: "We have lost nearly eleven hundred people this year. It is higher compared to last year, but this does not mean that incidents have increased; rather, the number of sites has increased and the figures have been accurately collected.”

Meanwhile, doctors also said that the visits of respiratory patients increase with the change of seasons.

"We even had two to three patients on one bed," said Mohammad Aref Hassanzai, in charge of the internal department of the Indira Gandhi Institute Of Child Health Hospital.

“She got pneumonia, we took medicine to her, took eight injections and administered them at home, it did not get better then we brought her to the hospital," said Fatema, who brought her eight-month-old daughter to the hospital.

"When we took her to the doctor, he said she must be hospitalized, we can't do anything and our medicine is not effective for her in here," said Hajera, the mother of another sick child.

Based on the statistics of the Ministry of Public Health, in the last year nearly 500,000 people were infected with respiratory diseases across the country in the first three months of 2023, of which 1,162 people died from the disease.
