UN’s Sinirlioğlu Meets With Deputy PM for Political Affairs

The deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, met with the UN special coordinator for Afghanistan, Feridun Sinirlioğlu, according to a statement from the Arg.

According to the statement, Sinirlioğlu said that there are some international laws and conventions for which the Islamic Emirate needs to be committed. The statement quoted him as saying that Afghanistan is important for the region because stability in Afghanistan means stability and security in the region.

Based on the statement, he said that there will be good decisions about Afghanistan at the Doha conference and that there will be positive changes in relations with Afghanistan after the Doha conference.

“The UN special coordinator said: No one wants the collapse of the Islamic Emirate.. but everyone wants to connect with the Islamic Emirate,” the statement said.

The Arg said that Sinirlioğlu also stated that the World Bank will hold a meeting about Afghanistan in the near future to discuss the improvement of the Afghan banking sector, removal of sanctions and unfinished projects of the World Bank.

Mawlawi Abdul Kabir meanwhile stressed that the appointment of a UN special envoy is "unnecessary," as the UN Assistant Mission in Afghanistan is active, the statement said.
