Indian Delegation in Kabul Discusses Trade, Humanitarian Aid

In a recent statement, Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs of India, announced that a delegation led by India's Special Representative for Afghanistan has visited the country.

The visit focused on discussions about India's humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and the utilization of the Chabahar Port by Afghan traders, in meetings held with Afghan authorities and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

Jaiswal highlighted the historical and civilizational ties between India and Afghanistan, stating that these bonds would continue to guide India's approach and policies towards Afghanistan.

"The delegation also met with former President Hamid Karzai, United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan officials, and members of the Afghan business community. The delegation held discussions on India’s humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan and also discussed use of Chabahar Port by Afghan traders. India has historical and civilizational ties with the Afghan people and these long-standing linkages will continue to guide our approach,” he said.

The spokesperson further noted that New Delhi initiated its technical mission in Kabul in June 2022, underscoring India's commitment to its relationship with Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Islamic Emirate's spokesperson, stated that the Islamic Emirate pledged to the Indian representative for Afghanistan it would facilitate the expansion of economic and political relations.

"India's cooperation in humanitarian aspects is highly appreciated by the Afghan people, and we thank them for their contributions. We have assured Indian representatives that they can progress in this direction and we can revive diplomatic relations,” Mujahid told TOLOnews.

Analysts expressed a positive outlook on the historical relations between Afghanistan and India, suggesting that enhancing political and economic relations with the interim government of Afghanistan could be beneficial for both countries.

"They might have come at the order of America to Afghanistan ro expand their relations with the current government," Moeen Gul Samkanai, a political analyst said.

"Given the current state where the current government of Afghanistan is not recognized, they cannot engage and expand some political matters with the current Afghan government,” said Shams Rahman Ahmadzai, an economist.

During a meeting with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs' joint secretary J.P Singh, Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister, expressed a desire to strengthen political and economic relations, including easing the issuance of business and student visas for Afghan citizens.
