Retirees Once Again Demand Their Pensions

Some retirees in the capital held a protest gathering, once again demanding the payment of their retirement pensions by the caretaker government.

Criticizing the non-payment of their pensions during this period, they stated that they have protested repeatedly; however, no steps have been taken in this matter by the Islamic Emirate.

Abdul Khaliq, a retiree, said: "Why do you not pay our pensions? Tell me the reason. Have I not served? I have turned my beard white serving in this land. I have served here for thirty-five years."

Another retiree, Ghulam Siddiq, said: "I beg the Islamic Emirate to consider that many retirees are in a dire state, living in misery and begging. They are running errands and begging, supporting their entire families. The retirees' pensions, which are their rightful due according to international law, should be paid."

Ghulam Hazrat, who spent a decade of his life working for the Kabul Municipality serving the people, today has been forced to push a cart in the hope of earning some bread.

He urges the officials of the Islamic Emirate to implement his retirement rights.

Ghulam Hazrat, a retiree, said: "They should give us our rights. From the rent for the room to bread and water, everything needs to be taken care of. I wander around the city all day and find nothing."

Previously, retirees have protested several times in Kabul to claim their pensions; however, a spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate had stated that the law regarding the payment of retirees' pensions has been finalized and sent to the leader of the Islamic Emirate.
