Meeting to Develop Kabul-Beijing Commercial Relations Held in China

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the "China-Afghanistan 3rd Liaison Mechanism Meeting for Humanitarian Assistance and Economic Reconstruction," was held in China.

Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the deputy spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that in the meeting, in addition to reviewing China's humanitarian cooperation approach over the past two and a half years, discussions were held about the reconstruction of Afghanistan, the development of commercial relations, and other economic issues.

“Within the framework of the economic reconstruction mechanism of Afghanistan, comprehensive discussions were held on enhancing trade relations between the two countries, especially creating more opportunities for the export of Afghan goods to China, capacity building, and opportunity creation,” said Zia Ahmad Takal.

Similarly, the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China stated that the head of the Asian department of the ministry emphasized the development of economic relations between the two countries at the meeting, and they discussed the continuation of humanitarian aid and China's support for Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment said it values China's role in the growth and development of Afghanistan's economy.

Mirwais Hotak, head of the Executive Board of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, told TOLOnews: “China is one of the largest economies in the world, hence its role in the growth and development of our country's economy is of special importance.”

Economic experts also see China's interest in expanding economic and trade relations with Afghanistan as beneficial for the country and stress the construction of a new railway route through the Wakhan corridor in Badakhshan to China.

Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic expert, told TOLOnews: “A good option is this railway, which we need to activate and through which we need to connect with China.”

According to statistics provided by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the volume of bilateral trade between China and Afghanistan in 2023 was $1.33 billion.
