A 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook a large part of Afghanistan on Wednesday morning, with tremors being felt as far away as India.
Frightened residents dashed out of buildings until the tremors stopped. In Kabul, at least two heavy waves were felt – which also sent people running out on to the streets.
The quake struck at 11.37am local time and its epicenter was in Jurm, in northern Badakhshan province, in the Hindu Kush mountains.
Early reports emerging from Pakistan indicate substantial damage was caused to buildings in areas that include Balochistan. GeoTV also reported at least one person killed in the quake in Pakistan.
