Islamic Emirate Seeks to Promote Microbusinesses

Hidayatullah Badri, the acting head of the Afghan Central Bank, met with the head of UNAMA, Roza Otunbayeva.

In a statement, the Central Bank stated that during the meeting, they discussed joint cooperation in the development of small Islamic financial institutions in Afghanistan, and Badri said that small businesses play an important role in the country's economy and reduce unemployment in the country.

Badri added that the Central Bank is planning to create coordination in using the experiences of the countries in the region.

The statement quoted Otunbayeva as saying that the UN is ready to work for the development of the banking sector based on the vision of the Central Bank of Afghanistan.

"The experiences of regional countries have proven that such institutions can help those people who want to start working, and small businesses can easily receive Islamic funding from these institutions,” said Hasibullah Noori, a spokesman of the Central Bank.

Some analysts believe that for economic growth and poverty reduction, it is necessary to support small businesses in the country.
“It is these small and medium-sized works that runs a country’s economy, if they are supported by the government, they can undoubtedly reduce the problem of poverty and unemployment,” said Abdul Nasir Reshtia, an economist.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy said that by creating facilities, they are trying to attract more investment in order to eradicate poverty in the country.
"We are trying to attract capital by creating facilities, so that our people can use this opportunity which has been provided in the areas of security and eradication of corruption and invest in the country for economic growth and development,” said Abdul Latif Nazari, deputy of the Ministry of Economy.

The acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, Attaullah Omari, also met with the head of UNAMA, Roza Otunbayeva and UMAMA's head of donor coordination.

In the meeting Otunbayeva said that the United Nations conference is scheduled to be held on October 30 with the participation of institutions, banks and donor countries and the meeting could be effective in positively changing people's lives and improving their work.
