6-Month Financial Report of DAB Released

The six-month work report of Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB)/Central Bank was released today (Wednesday) in a meeting.

Hidayatullah Badri, the acting head of DAB, said that maintaining the stability and value of the afghani against foreign currencies, controlling inflation, reducing restrictions on people's bank deposits and promoting Islamic banking are among the most important achievements of this bank.

The acting head of DAB added that this bank was able to print and release new banknotes into the market despite international sanctions.

Hidayatullah Badri said: "The central bank has been able to control the inflation rate and keep it at an optimal level. The level of restrictions on customer deposits in commercial banks has been gradually reduced and restrictions on newly opened accounts have been removed. Our effort is to make a lot of progress in this direction."

However, the DAB officials relate the effects of inflation on global prices. But they said that this bank has been able to manage the stability and value of the afghani. They consider foreign aid, prevention of currency outflow from Afghanistan, and promotion of the Afghani in the country's markets as the fundamental causes of Afghan stability.

"The average inflation rate from the beginning of the financial (solar) year 1402 until the end of the month of Aqrab is minus 6.7 percent, while in the same period of the previous year, the average inflation rate was 14.5 percent, which fortunately, according to the new figures we have, has decreased. It is considered in the inflation rate,” said Ahmad Jawad Sadad, head of the Central Bank's Monetary Policy.

“283 reports of suspicious transactions from commercial banks have been communicated to this authority. Meanwhile, during the year 1401, the number of suspicious transactions were 420 which shows a 38% decrease in suspicious transactions,” said Ahmad Zahir Naserzai, Head of non-banking financial institutions of the Central Bank.
DAB has also given statistics that in order to regulate non-bank monetary transactions, it has issued 1,076 activity licenses to companies providing monetary services across the country.

Based on the information of DAB, this bank collected 803 million worn-out banknotes in 1402 (solar) year and destroyed a total of 4.7 billion afghani banknotes.
