MEHWAR: Helmand Hunger Strike Discussed
The local government in Helmand has responded to the demands of the “peace convoy” in the province by accepting to agree to a ceasefire with the Taliban.
The peace convoy protestors went on a hunger strike on Thursday after their demands were not met by government and the Taliban.
Some participants of the hunger strike protest are those who have lost family members in the war and violence in the province.
They said the Helmand residents are tired of war and that they ask government and the Taliban to announce a ceasefire.
One member of the protest, Khodaidad, said he has lost four members of his family in last Friday’s suicide attack in Lashkargah City.
