Government figures show that 8,000 families were displaced in Baghlan in the last three weeks, leaving many of them stranded on the streets of the northern city of Pul-e-Khumri while others live in close quarters with dozens in a single home.

In one instance, 17 families are living in one home, said TOLOnews reporter Sharif Amiri.

A watchdog on Monday reacted to two recent incidents that involve the mistreatment of remains of soldiers and fighters on battlefields in two Afghan districts, saying such incidents are a violation of the rules of war and must be prevented.

Footage released on social media this month showed 23 members of a special forces unit being shot by the Taliban in Faryab province after they were captured by the group. Other footage from this month shows a number of army forces mistreating bodies of Taliban fighters in Ghazni province.
