Addressing a private sector side event in Geneva on Tuesday, Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani said that his administration has created the legal structure for the mining sector in the country.

He said that Afghanistan’s natural resources can play a vital role in dealing with poverty and instability in the country.

Senators in Afghanistan’s Meshrano Jirga (upper house of parliament) on Tuesday summoned the three heads of security institutions including minister of defense Tariq Shah Bahrami, minister of interior Wais Ahmad Barmak and head of National Directorate of Security (NDS) Masoom Stanekzai to appear before the house to answer questions over the serious security situation in the country.

“War is going on in many provinces of Afghanistan. In other areas also, challenges and problems are increasing,” said one senator Hashim Alokozai.
