Afghanistan’s Debut Test Match Gets Underway

Afghanistan's National Cricket Team started their first ever test match against India on Thursday morning at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in India.

Afghanistan’s captain Asghar Stanikzai said morale among team members was good and they were positive. that no disrespect to Afghanistan though.

An excellent spin attack led by Rashid Khan is a reason for Afghanistan’s confidence. “Right now Rashid is the most difficult spinner to play around. He hasn’t played Test cricket so we need to look and see what happens. But I’m sure his professionalism will help him adjust and he will come out well,” coach Phil Simmons said.

After beating Bangladesh 3-0 in the T20I series earlier this month, Stanikzai cautioned India ahead of the match.

"Great preparation for the Test match against India - the morale is high," Stanikzai said. "Last couple of years we have performed well. We want to achieve it for Afghanistan. You see the batsmen, bowlers are all in good form."

What is the "caution" here? He simply spoke about Afghan being in great form and that the T20 series in India against Bangladesh was a good prep for their 1st test, Times of India reported.

The Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan, the architect of Afghanistan's 3-0 whitewash of Bangladesh, might well be the frontman in Bengaluru and he is looking forward to the big occasion.

"Full credit to my fitness - if you're fit, you can deliver in any department; it doesn't matter whether I'm playing in league cricket or the national team, I just want to enjoy," he said.
