Pakistan Awarded 3rd Spot After Rain Ruins Play

Persistent rain forced match officials to call off the ICC Under-19 World Cup third place play-off game between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Queenstown in New Zealand on Thursday.

The result meant Pakistan took third spot having finished ahead of Afghanistan in the group because of their net run rate.

Earlier, Pakistan lost to arch-rivals India in the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup semi-final. They lost by a massive 203-run margin.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, lost to Australia in the other semi-final by six wickets.

Afghanistan and Pakistan were both placed in Group D where Pakistan finished top while Afghanistan were second.

Afghanistan had a chance to top the group but their loss against Ireland in the last group encounter hurt their chances.

Afghanistan had maintained a good run against Pakistan - beating them three times in the Asia Cup and once in the World Cup ahead of Wednesday night’s encounter.

With this match done and dusted, there's just one clash remaining in the tournament with India taking on Australia in the finals on February 3.
