Pakistan Citizens Complain About Price Increases as Eid-al-Fitr Approaches

On the eve of Eid al-Fitr, Pakistan’s citizens complained about the increase in economic challenges in their country, stating they cannot afford their necessities.

They added that the prices of food, clothing, and other necessary items have doubled or even tripled compared to last year.

"The difficulty of people in buying goods has reached an extraordinary level. Clothes that we used to buy for 300 rupees are now being sold for 800 to 900 rupees. Prices have more than doubled and even tripled. Prices have gone far beyond the purchasing power of most of us," said Taher Rizvi, a citizen of Pakistan.

"The inflation is very high. There is no doubt that goods are very expensive, but it is clear that we have to buy something for our children," said Ahmad Moghul, another citizen of Pakistan.

At the same time, shopkeepers in Pakistan also complained about the dullness of their markets and said that economic inflation has led to the spread of poverty among the citizens of the country.

"I am a shopkeeper and have only shopped for my children; I have not bought anything for myself so far. If our situation is like this, then what will be the situation of the middle class and the poor?" said Mohammad Fawad, a shopkeeper.

The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics also wrote in a report that the country needs reforms in the economic system for growth and prosperity.
