Islamic Emirate Appoints Military Attaché in Moscow

A source has told TOLOnews that the Islamic Emirate has introduced a new military attaché to the Afghan embassy in Moscow who has been accepted by Russian authorities.

Ahmad Zmarak Yaser has recently been introduced as the military attaché in Moscow and has begun his duties, the source said.

The Islamic Emirate has not officially confirmed the introduction of this attaché; however, it stated that the interim government of Afghanistan seeks engagement with all countries, including Russia.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, said: "Afghanistan's relationship with Russia is at a very good level; we have diplomatic, economic and trade relations managed through diplomatic channels and embassies, which are progressing well. We want our relationships with all countries to be secured."

Experts said the existence of military attachés in political representations of countries is important.

Taher Yarghal, a military affairs expert, told TOLOnews: "A military attaché works on specific duties such as concluding arms and weaponry contracts with the country where they are stationed and arranging military scholarships."

Afghan military affairs expert Zalmai Afghan Yar said: "It is reassuring that Afghanistan has good military relations with Russia and alongside it, there is the possibility of professionalization and capacity building by sending Afghan soldiers to Russia for military capacity enhancement."

The Islamic Emirate previously introduced economic attachés and those for the migrant sector to several countries, both close and far.
