23 Taliban Insurgents Killed in Nangarhar Operation

At least 23 Taliban insurgents including their three local commanders were killed in an operation on Wednesday night in eastern Nangarhar province, provincial governor media office said in a statement on Thursday.

The operation was launched in Sordag area of Khoghyani district of the province in which 14 other suspects were also arrested, the statement said.

“Qari Hedayat, Qari Khalid and Ismael the three Taliban commanders are also among the dead,” it said, adding that “two motorbikes  and land mines were also destroyed, and the forces have also seized weapons.”

The statement did not provide details about casualties among security forces.

Meanwhile, Resolute Support mission confirmed in a statement that there had been an active ground engagement in Achin in Nangarhar in partnership with Afghan forces.

"No coalition service members were killed in the engagement. One US service member was wounded and is in stable condition at a medical treatment facility," the statement said. 

In the meantime, Taliban has also confirmed the incident, claiming that the US and Afghan forces launched an operation in Khoghyani where they faced “serious response” from the group.

Meanwhile, Resolute Support mission confirmed in a statement that there had been an active ground engagement in Achin in Nangarhar in partnership with Afghan forces.
