BBC Journalist Laid To Rest, Father Calls For Justice

Ahmad Shah, a BBC Pashto reporter who was shot dead on Monday afternoon by unknown armed men in Khost province, was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Ahmad Shah’s father, Mirwais, said his son had not had any disputes or problems with anyone and his murder was a mystery.

Mirwais said government should investigate his son’s murder and prosecute those responsible.

“I never heard that Ahmad Shah fought with anyone or had problems with anyone. He was never threatened by anyone. In fact he was not the type of person to fight with anyone,” Mirwais said.

Ahmad Shah was 27 years old and had been working for BBC in Khost for a year. He was engaged and due to marry his fiancé in the next couple of months.

Ahmad Shah’s family meanwhile said government should investigate the killing and share the findings with the public.

“Government should probe this case and maintain our security,” Ajmal, the deceased’s brother said.

“And a street in Khost should be named after Ahmad Shah and he should be remembered,” Farid Qurban, a friend of Ahmad Shah said.

Ahmad Shah was killed on Monday while on his way home. He was the 10th journalist killed in one day in Afghanistan. Nine others were killed in a Kabul bombing on Monday.
