Land-grabber Arrested In Logar Province

Logar’s provincial governor has said national security forces arrested Shah Faisal Ahmadzai, the Junbish-e-Milli party head for Paktia province, in Logar along with 20 of his armed men on charges of supporting a land grabber and misusing the name of First Vice President General Abdul Rashid Dostum.

“He went to Logar to encourage people to launch a demonstration,” said Mohammad Halim Fidai, governor of Logar province.

On Wednesday local government wanted to destroy houses that had been built on government land in Mohammad Agha district of the province. But people resisted – they were supported by Faisal and his men, said Fidai.

As a result, firing started between the land grabber and local government officials and a man and a child were killed and a woman was wounded, said Fidai.

“There were guns fired among the people but it is not known who fired (weapons),” Fidai said.

According to Fidai, 20 armed men were arrested and four vehicles, weapons and illegal identity cards were seized.

Ahmadzai has said he is an adviser to Dostum, said Fidai.

They have put up Dostum’s pictures and illegal registration plates on their cars.

TOLOnews was unable to get comment from Dostum’s spokesmen but a letter issued by his office stated that Faisal has permission to carry two weapons.

“Dostum hands finally reached Logar and his powerful men want to create discord and insecurity among people,” Haseeb Stanikzai, a member of Logar provincial council said.
