Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday met the Australian governor general Sir Peter Cosgrove in Kabul and the two leaders discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to the region and Afghanistan. 

The two leaders also discussed the US war strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia, security issues, the economy, the war on terrorism and Australian cooperation in the mining sector. 
 
Ghani expressed his appreciation to Australia for its continued support to Afghanistan in various sectors such as security, development, training, equipping the Afghan security forces and he paid tribute to those Australian soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan. 
 
Referring to US President Donald Trump’s new war strategy for Afghanistan, Ghani said that it will help strengthen peace and stability in the region. 
 
In turn, the Australian governor general thanked Ghani for the hospitality he received in Afghanistan. 
 
He also welcomed the US’s new war strategy for Afghanistan. 
 
He said that Australia will continue its cooperation with the people of Afghanistan. 
 
He said that Australia is ready to provide technical support to Afghanistan in the investment sector.
