An unknown gunman shot and killed Sayed Agha Mohammad, governor of Chighansor district of western Nimroz province, early Monday, local officials said.

The incident took place at about 8:30am local time in the provincial capital, Zaranj, when Mohammad was on his way to his office, a spokesman for the provincial police chief, Mohammad Omari, said.

“The incident happened when Sayed Agha Mohammad was on his way to his office. A man who was on a motorbike shot and killed him,” Omari said.

The attacker immediately fled the area, he said adding that police are investigating the incident.

No details regarding the motive were given nor has any group claimed responsibility for the attack.
