Unknown gunmen abducted Mohammad Nabi Ahmadi, the deputy governor for Kunar province, in Dabgari area of Peshawar on Friday, a day after he arrived in the city for an appointment with a doctor, Pakistani local officials confirmed.
Afghan Consul General in Peshawar Moeen Marastyal also confirmed the report and said Ahmadi arrived in Peshawar on Thursday where he had an appointment with a doctor in Dabgari.
“There, he was abducted by unidentified gunmen and we still haven’t heard anything about him,” Marastyal said.
“At first we thought that he was somewhere nearby when he didn’t respond to our calls. We then informed the Kabul government and also the Pakistani high-ups about him,” he said.
“We hope that he will be rescued soon.”
Last year, former Afghan governor Sayed Fazlullah Wahidi was also abducted in Islamabad and was rescued in Mardan, in Pakistan, two weeks later.
