An explosion rocked the city of Mazar-e-Sharif in Balkh province, in the country’s north, on Thursday morning.
Balkh police said at least one person was killed in the blast.
Police have started investigations into the incident, officials said.
An eyewitness said the target was a former jihadi commander who was passing through the PD1 area of Mazar-e-Sharif city, south of the Blue Mosque.
The eyewitness said the former jihadi commander was on his way to breakfast at the Mansour Restaurant when the explosion occurred.
According to an eyewitness, two people were wounded in the incident.
