Seyagerd Valley Residents Flee As Clashes Continue

Clashes between Taliban and Afghan security forces that started on Friday morning in the Fondeqistan valley in Parwan’s Seyagerd district have been ongoing for three days.

TOLOnews journalist Tamim Hamid reporting form the frontline said the Afghan security forces withdrew from some areas on Sunday as others areas collapsed to the Taliban on Saturday.

Hamid also said on Sunday afternoon air strikes were launched in the area to clear the region of Taliban.

Hamid asked the Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel what security forces were fighting the Taliban in the valley.

“The enemy started firing on us from four sides,” Aminullah, a local policeman said.

“Except for the national army who are with us right now, we have not received any other significant support,” another local policeman, Zmarai said.

The residents of the Fondeqistan valley however said the security forces are not making much progress.

“All the forces are asleep in the strongholds. They may not have permission for an operation and there is no advancing,” said Shaker, a resident of the area.

People have locked their houses and have fled from the valley in search of safe places.

Mullah Jan is one resident from the valley. He fled with his family two days ago to the center of Parwan province.

“My family is not here. I have come here to feed my cows,” said Mullah Jan.
