Airport To Get Big Terminal and Five-Star Hotel

Officials of Afghanistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA) on Monday said they will establish a five-star hotel, a big terminal and an export zone at Hamid Karzai International airport in Kabul.

According to the ACAA, they will implement six development projects in the airport, including the hotel, terminal and the export zone. The projects will be started next year.

ACCA officials said the terminal will have the capacity to handle around 10 million passengers yearly. In addition, a standard terminal will be built for cargo and for repairing airplanes.

ACCA head Mahmoud Shah Habibi said the project will be implemented jointly by the government and the private sector. Around $700 million USD will be invested to fund the development projects.

“These projects will be implemented with the help of the private sector. We are trying to increase the capacity of Hamid Karzai International Airport by establishing the new terminal,” said Habibi.

The Construction Company Union’s executive director, Ghulam Ali Danish Kamal, said a big number of companies are ready to invest in these projects if the government resolved existing problems in the way of investments in the construction sector.

“The construction companies are ready and have the ability to invest jointly with the government if the government resolves our challenges on investments,” said Kamal.

Currently, Hamid Karzai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country. ACCA officials said although Japan in the past years has spent millions of dollars in standardizing the airport, the new buildings are and terminals are necessary.
