The first melon festival program was launched in Sheberghan, the capital of Jawzjan province.

In this festival, 46 different kinds of melons were introduced, with the Arkani, Asqlan, Danyari, Chatri, Yazi, Ala Pochaq, Gurgak, Zanburcha, and Jarupi melons being the most well-known.

Poets and authors at this cultural event urged the authorities to develop such initiatives to promote the province's agricultural products.

"For the presence of poets and writers in Jawzjan, the Association of Poets and Writers is active, and there is support from various addresses in this field,” said Ali Shir Intezar, a writer.

"The poetry ceremony of the melon festival of Jawzjan can bring together a large number of cultural figures, such as poets, writers, youth, professors, and students, for the exchange of ideas,” said Bahram Yaqoobi, a university lecturer.

The launch of the melon festival, according to Jawzjan's Department of Information and Culture, is intended to inspire young people to pursue writing careers and introduce them to regional products.

"We come here with confidence and at ease. We sit here, listen, recite our poems, and discuss our opinions with one other,” said Saif Rahman Motasem, head of the department of information and culture of Jawzjan.

"The program's goal is to bring together poets, writers, cultural figures, and culture enthusiasts, to hear their problems, and share them with the center,” said Ahmad Shah Rokh Joyenda, Culture and Tourism head of Jawzjan's Information and Culture department.

According to officials in the Department of Agriculture and Irrigation of Jawzjan, melons are among the most significant agricultural products in this province.

2,857 hectares of land have been used to cultivate melons in the current solar year, and farmers in Jawzjan harvest more than 1,620 tons of melons.
