Hunger in Gaza; Palestinians Await Iftar Delivery from the Airplanes

Residents of Gaza said that to secure just one meal a day, they wait for hours with their children for the drop of humanitarian aid from airplanes in the city.

Palestinians, displaced after wars, have nothing for Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.

"We have tried two times this morning [to secure aid] but in vain. We will try one or two more times but there is not much time until Iftar time, we are in Ramadan. We hope to secure [food] today. We hope no one will stop us and that we will be able to get (food) with ease - without having to crowd around the items... If we can at least get a can of beans or hummus to support ourselves. We hope that we will eat today. For most people, hunger has consumed them, they have no energy anymore," said Ahmed Tafesh, a Gaza resident.

As people in Gaza strive to receive humanitarian aid, James Elder, spokesperson for the United Nations Children's Fund, announced the shipment of a new round of humanitarian aid to the city's residents in the coming days.

“When I came to the Gaza strip just over a week ago, there were hundreds of trucks of lifesaving humanitarian aid waiting to get to these people in urgent need. But on the wrong side of the border, hundreds of trucks of UN and INGO supplies are currently backlogged, waiting to get into Gaza,” said James Elder, spokesperson, UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

According to official statistics, since the beginning of the battles in Gaza, more than 80% of the Gaza Strip's population has been displaced, with women and children making up the majority of those displaced.

Once again, thousands of citizens from Yemen and Jordan have demanded an end to the conflicts in the Gaza Strip in a march.

"We came out for those who were displaced and for children without homes. We came out for those who were unjustly killed in cold blood. We came out because Yemen's proof is refutable.

We came out because Palestine is Arab, because Palestine is Yemen's first cause. We came out because everything in Palestine is sacred: the land and the people, mosques and churches, Al-Aqsa Mosque and innocent souls," said Yahya Nashwan, a Yemeni protestor.

"This spirit of the Jordanian people, on the 176th day of this criminal war, assures that the Jordanian people will not let down the people in Gaza and Palestine. This nation will always be beside Palestine, and will always have its voice high to defend the Palestinian case, and support our people in Gaza, to defend this heroine resistance which defends our right in Palestine.

Today these Jordanian people spontaneously are surrounding the embassy for the past six days," said Murad Al-Ghadayla said, another protestor.

Recently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to start a new round of talks with Hamas, which are expected to take place in the coming days in Doha and Egypt.
