Afghanistan One Step Closer To ICC Full Membership

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has agreed, in principle, to new changes to the financial model and governance structure, one of which is on the possibility of including Afghanistan as a Full Member.

ICC board members met this week in Dubai where a number of issues around constitutional changes and financial models were discussed.

The ICC stated that the constitutional changes agreed to include: “The potential to include additional Full Members (Ireland and Afghanistan subject to both meeting Membership criteria).”

Currently there are 10 Full Member countries.

In addition, the ICC awarded Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Ahmad Shah Abdali Regional 4-day Tournament First Class Status, and by extension, the Shpageeza T20 League was awarded List A status.

Together with first-class and Twenty20 cricket, List A is one of the three major forms of cricket recognized by the ICC.
