Pakistanis Face Increased Food Prices During Ramadan

A number of Pakistan’s citizens complained about the increase in economic difficulties in their country, saying that they cannot afford food during the month of Ramadan.

They added that the price of food in their country has increased two to three times.

"I have been unemployed for four years and cannot afford food for breaking my fast. I come here every day to break my fast. From the first day of Ramadan, I visit here for Iftar and Sahari because I cannot afford to buy and prepare it at home," said Zeeshan Ali, a citizen of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, a charity organization in the city of Karachi prepares Iftar for 2,500 to 3,000 fasting individuals daily.

Those fasting in the city can come to this place and receive food for Iftar and Sahari.

"Daily, about 2,500 to 3,000 people break their fast here. We have been doing this for the past 15 years. We have pans here in which we fry food. Apart from this, we have fruits for Iftar. We have our own kitchen here, where we cook food in more than 12 pots daily. The good thing is that many donors bring pots full of food here at Iftar time, and others bring fruits. We do our best to feed everyone here," said Zafar Abbas, a relief worker.

"When I leave my workplace, I come here for Iftar. Those who provide this Iftar are doing charitable deeds. It's a great relief for those who cannot make it home on time," said Furqanuddin, a citizen of Pakistan.

Economic problems among Pakistani citizens are increasing while a new government has formed in the country under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

At the same time, officials of the new government in Pakistan have pledged to control the economic, political, and security situation in the country in favor of its citizens.
