Muslims Celebrate Eid al-Fitr with Prayers for Peace in Gaza

Today (Wednesday), Muslims in various countries celebrated Eid al-Fitr with diverse ceremonies.

After performing the Eid prayer, they prayed for the end of conflicts between Hamas and Israel in Gaza and called for a halt to the battles.

Rizwan Zaidi, a citizen of Pakistan, said, "Eid is a festival of happiness. Everyone should celebrate it."

Shaheen, a citizen of Iran, said, "Muslims in Iran, as way to thank God over the privilege to fast during the holy month of Ramadan, perform the prayers for the Eid al-Fitr. They praise and thank God for giving them the chance to worship him during Ramadan, and they ask God for more blessings for the year ahead."

Arini Devi, a citizen of Indonesia, said, "Alhamdulillah, I'm happy to celebrate the Eid holiday despite a surge in food prices and other prices, but I am grateful that I can get through it."

Wearing new clothes, giving charity, and performing the Eid prayer are traditions that Muslims usually follow, and they visit each other's homes to pay respects to elders and wish each other a blessed Eid.

However, the conflicts in the Gaza Strip have cast a shadow over Muslims' celebration of Eid al-Fitr.

Mohammad Nasim, a citizen of Pakistan, said, "All Muslims should remember the persecuted Muslims of Palestine in their prayers. We should remember those Muslims who are victims of atrocities, who are victims of Israeli barbarity. As Muslims, we prayed today that Allah brings them out of their misery soon, and an independent state of Palestine comes into existence."

Yusuf Bayar, a citizen of Turkey, said, "We are grateful that we’re able to welcome Eid this morning in our country, thank God. May God grant all Muslims the opportunity to celebrate Eid in the best possible way. The sadness of Palestine is inside us all, so it's a bittersweet Eid."

The Secretary-General of the United Nations also expressed regret over the ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Sudan, and other parts of the world in a congratulatory Eid al-Fitr message.

António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, said, “My heart is broken to know that, in Gaza, in Sudan, and so many other places because of conflict and hunger, so many Muslims will not be able to celebrate Eid properly.”

Residents of the Gaza Strip also called for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel and for humanitarian aid from countries around the world.
