Floods Claim 69 Lives in Pakistan

The number of casualties from recent rains and subsequent floods in Pakistan has reached 69 people.

The rains and recent floods in this country have also caused substantial financial damages and led to the destruction of residential houses, vehicles, roads, and bridges.

Abdul Rashid Naseer, medical superintendent of district headquarter hospital Chaman, said: “The wall of a house collapsed, which killed a woman, and injured three persons. The injured were given treatment and sent home. A vehicle was swept away by the water. The driver survived, but three women and two children were killed. One child is still missing. Another dead body of an unidentified child has also been recovered from a stream. It is lying here, in the hospital."

Yesterday, at least seven people also died due to the rains and floods in the Chaman of Balochistan, Pakistan.

"For the past five days , it has been raining intermittently in Chaman. Today there was torrential rain in which three women and three children were killed. More than 20 people were injured and were brought to civil hospital. Apart from that many cars were swept away by the floods caused by heavy rain," said Jalal Achakzai, a local resident.

"Yes, this bridge broke from the rain. It rained very heavily. It never rained like this before. It rained so heavily, the water spread all over, all the roads got blocked," said Mohammad Bilal, another local resident.

Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has reported the possibility of heavy rains across the country in the coming days and said that there is also a chance of snowfall in the highlands of northern Pakistan.
