'Avengers' Set To Hit $1 Billion For Box Office Record

Avengers: Infinity War is becoming one of Marvel's biggest box office wins and Disney announced Saturday that the movie is expected to cross the $1 billion mark in the global box office in a record-setting 11 day since its release, according to CNET report.

The report said the benchmark is the latest record set by the ensemble film, which began its run with a $250 million opening weekend that beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens' previous record of $248 million. And the tickets just kept selling, crossing the $800 million mark on Wednesday.

The movie brings together the stars of nearly every Marvel movie released over the past 10 years, including Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chris Evans' Captain America, Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow and many others against mad titan Thanos (Josh Brolin).

Disney also announced that movies made by The Walt Disney Studios -- which in addition to Infinity War include Black Panther -- have made $3 billion in the global box office for the current calendar year as of Friday. That surpasses Disney's previous 2016 record of hitting the milestone by May 6.

The Verge also reported that the film reached this milestone in just 11 days: it took The Force Awakens 12 days in 2015.

The film’s success thus far has allowed Disney to cross the $3 billion mark for its overall box office thus far in 2018. What’s notable here is that Avengersreached this milestone before it opens in China on May 11th — once it does, that number will likely jump considerably, it said.

The film also overtook The Force Awakens’ US opening weekend box office record last week when it grossed $250 million when it opened last week. Marvel’s Black Panther crossed the $1 billion mark four weeks after it hit theaters in February, it added.
