The Ministry of Public Health said that in a meeting in Kabul between Qalandar Ebad, the head of the ministry, and an Iranian delegation, there was a discussion about increasing the capacity of Afghan gynecologists.

“Iran cooperates with us in the field of improving capacity, and also in the field of disease control in Afghanistan. Health centers that are arranged or will be arranged by Iran have been discussed in the financing section," said Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, a spokesman for the ministry. 

Meanwhile, some gynecologists asked the Ministry of Public Health to increase the number of gynecologists in government hospitals in addition to creating opportunities for them to improve their capacity. 

“I sincerely want to serve the mother and the child. These two need help because the child is speechless and cannot express his pain,” said Zakia Sarwari, a gynecologist. 

“Health personnel should be increased, and the Ministry of Public Health should have new gynecologists,” said Nelofar Qadiri, a gynecologist. 

Doctors said the presence of gynecologists in various medical departments, especially the departments related to mothers and babies, are important.

“Gynecologists carry out all health functions alongside doctors,” said Malalai Rahim Faizi, head of Malalai Hospital. 

Based on investigations, at least 26,000 professional gynecologists are registered in the Ministry of Public Health, nearly 4,000 gynecologists are currently working in governmental hospitals and nearly 6,000 gynecologists are working in private hospitals.
