Islamic Emirate Leader Bans Levy of Signboard Taxes on Shopkeepers

The leader of the Islamic Emirate has banned the collection of taxes on signboards from shopkeepers throughout the country.

However, it is mentioned in the decree that those shopkeepers who have contracts with municipalities are exempted from the new decree and must continue to pay taxes.

Nematullah Barakzai, a representative of the Kabul Municipality, said: "In the part concerning the collection of taxes from the signboards of shopkeepers, a decree has been issued by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, which the Kabul Municipality will hereafter strictly implement, and there are some technical issues about which meetings will be held."

Along with this decree, a number of shopkeepers in the capital are welcoming the cancellation of their signboard taxation.

"They have done a very good thing because there was no benefit from these things to shopkeepers, and it was merely causing trouble for us," said Abdul Aziz, a shopkeeper.

"We are pleased with cooperation in any area, and now that the taxes on these signboards have been removed, it is a cause for happiness," said Abdullah, a shopkeeper.

Earlier, the Ministry of Information and Culture had also announced the establishment of a commission to regulate signboards across the country, stressing that the signboards of shopkeepers and business companies must not damage cultural values and must be in the country's national languages.
