Justice Ministry Emphasizes Ban on Political Parties' Activities in Country

The Ministry of Justice of the Islamic Emirate once again communicated about the cancellation of political parties' activities in the country.

Barkatullah Rasouli, the spokesperson for the ministry, said that any political activity of parties in the country is prohibited, and offenders will be dealt with legally.

Rasouli also said that the activities of social institutions have been suspended, and only charitable organizations with an official license are allowed to operate.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice said: “The directorate related to political parties has also been canceled in the Ministry of Justice and removed from the structures of this ministry. Nevertheless, recently some officials of political parties who were registered with the Ministry of Justice in the past administration, have made statements and actions on behalf of their parties.”

Meanwhile, some political affairs experts, emphasizing the importance of political parties' activities in the country, said the Islamic Emirate should allow them to operate and monitor them.

Shafiqullah Khaksar, a political affairs expert, said: “Parties can support a government, strengthen it, and help in better advancing the system; however, banning their activity is considered illegal and unprincipled. It is better if they operate in coordination and under a unified decision with the government.”

Another political affairs expert, Mohammad Bashar, said: “The people's demand is that political parties are no longer needed in Afghanistan. Political parties have caused harm to the establishment of Afghanistan and have negotiated with other countries in their time; therefore, there is no need for political parties under these circumstances.”

Earlier, the military court in Kandahar sentenced two individuals to more than 15 years in prison for their political activities.
