Iran, Pakistan Seal Eight Cooperation Agreements to Strengthen Ties

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, during his three-day visit to Pakistan, met and held discussions with Asif Ali Zardari, the president of Pakistan, in Islamabad.

Raisi, in a meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, had called for the expansion of trade, political, and security cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion by signing eight cooperation documents.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated: "The level of trade and economic relations between the two countries is unacceptable. We have decided to raise the trade and economic relations between the two countries to $10 billion, as a first step.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said: “Today, we had a very useful conversation and with the grace of God, we have discussed in great detail our mutual relations between the two brotherly countries, religion, culture, embassy and investment security."

The Iranian president names organized crime, drug cultivation and trafficking, and anti-security incidents as threats to the entire region.

He added, "The two countries have the same stance on fighting terrorism. Both countries are determined to fight security issues and terrorism. The two countries aim to fight organized crime, narcotics and different kinds of security issues that threaten them, as well as the region."

Officials from both countries also condemned the conflicts in Gaza and expressed their support for the Palestinians.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan added: "You and your country have taken a very strong and principled stand on Gaza, over the barbarity and inhumane treatment that is being inflicted on the Muslims of Gaza. Pakistan also stands with our Palestinian brothers and sisters in Gaza."

The President of Iran stated: "What has made people across the world sad is that international bodies and the so-called human rights organizations have lost their efficiency. The U.N has lost its efficiency; the security council doesn't do its duties.”

This comes as relations between Tehran and Islamabad have significantly intensified since January of this year due to firing exchanges between the two sides, with officials from both countries working diligently since then to rebuild the relations between the two nations.
