House-to-House Operation Starts in Kandahar to Eradicate Drugs

To combat drugs, a house-to-house operation has begun in the Daman district of Kandahar province.

According to the officials, after the ban on drug cultivation, some farmers have secretly cultivated drugs in their houses.

The Afghan counter-narcotics forces in a campaign have destroyed the crops of farmers who had secretly cultivated in the Daman district of this province.

"Security forces are searching house to house, of course with people's permission, and they destroy any opium they find," said Qari Burhan, the head of counter-narcotics operations in Daman.

"This is the seventh location where we have destroyed poppy cultivation in one and a half acres of land," said Ahmad Omar, a counter-narcotics officer.

"In these four days, we patrolled in the Daman district and destroyed the poppy fields that were cultivated in homes," said Shah Faisal, another counter-narcotics officer.

A number of Kandahar residents urged officials to seriously combat the cultivation, production, and smuggling of drugs.

"You know, and I know that drug use harms individuals, and those in our country who have become addicted are so because of its cultivation. If it is eradicated, that would be very good," said Abdul Malik, a Kandahar resident.

"It is very good to stop the youth from getting intoxicated," said Jamaluddin, another resident.

According to information from the Kandahar security command, since the beginning of this year, they have cleared 648 acres of land from poppy cultivation and more than 57 acres of land from marijuana cultivation in the center and districts of this province.
