Media Workers Killed And Wounded In Kabul Deadly Attack

NAI, an organization supporting open media in Afghanistan, on Friday confirmed that one journalist was killed and nine others were wounded in Thursday suicide attack in Kabul.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack.

Sayed Mahdi Husaini, a journalist of Jomhor News, lost his life in the attack. 

Among the wounded media workers, seven are from the AVA – Afghan Voice Agency - News Agency and two others are from Shamshad TV. 

“Unfortunately, nine journalists were wounded in Thursday incident. Two from Shamshad TV and seven from AVA News Agency. And unfortunately, one journalist was killed,” CEO of NAI Mujib Khelwatgar told TOLOnews. 

Sayed Hamza Hussaini, who sustained injuries in the attack, said it was a horrific incident.

“We heard a loud voice. Everything was damaged in our office following the explosion. The second voice was heard at least 20 minutes after the first one. We heard another voice too,” Hussaini said, explaining his experience from the horrific incident. 

On Thursday, Daesh operatives attacked on Tabyan Cultural Center in Kabul. Tabyan office is in the basement of the building in which the AVANews Agency’s office is located on the third floor. Most of the equipment of the agency have been damaged as a result of the attack. 

“Our equipment for producing news including the cameras and laptop computers and other devices have been damaged,” Sayed Hassan Hussaini,head of the new agency, said.
