U-15 Football Team to Face Iran in CAFA Tournament

Afghanistan’s U-15 football team will take on Iran on Thursday night in their third match of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) tournament in Uzbekistan.

The team lost its opening match to Tajikistan but beat Kyrgyzstan 2-1 in their second match.

Thursday’s match between Afghanistan and Iran will kick-off at about 8:30pm Kabul time.

“We have studied all our weak points we picked up in the past two matches and we also studied the Iranian team’s  strategy to look for their weak points,” Wahid Wahidi, Afghanistan’s U-15 Football Team coach said.

“Inshah Allah with the plan that we prepared, we will beat the rivals (Iran) and move forward in the tournament,” Wahidi said.

In the meantime, Baktash Forotan, a member of the team said: “The coaches have showed us our weaknesses and we hope to beat Iran as we can as Afghanistan was last year’schampions.”

Currently, Iran is top of the table with six points and has not yet suffered any defeats.

This is the second year that Uzbekistan is hosting the tournament – which started on Sunday. Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, and Turkmenistan are all taking part.

The event, being held in Tashkent, will end on July 30.

Afghanistan will next play Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan – in that order.
