Lawmakers in Afghanistan’s parliament on Tuesday blasted security leaders over the weakness to tackle the deteriorating security situation in the country, saying they must step down over poor war leadership.
 
This comes a day after the Taliban took over Tala wa Barfak district in Baghlan province.
 
MPs also blasted the ministry of defense for not even sending reinforcements and helicopters ten days after the Taliban surrounded the district. They said that the failure led to the collapse of the district and several officers were killed as a result of the negligence.
 
On Tuesday, head of Baghlan Provincial Council, Mohammad Safdar Mohseni said, over 100 government forces are missing following the collapse of Tala wa Barfak district.
 
But, defense ministry officials have pledged to launch an operation soon to retake the district from insurgents.
 
“We are using all our abilities against the terrorists,” said MoD spokesman Mohammad Radmanish.
 
During the past week, the Taliban have taken over Kohistan district in Badakhshan, Tala wa Barfak district of Baghlan and Bilchiragh district of northern Faryab province. However, the security forces have so far taken back only Kohistan district of Badakhshan province.
 
“Unfortunately, the capacity does not exist within the security leadership, and they do not address the demands of the forces in time,” said parliament speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi.
 
“Defense ministry made promises to us and we relayed the messages from the defense minister and army chief back to them. Ultimately, the defense ministry did not even manage to launch one single operation during the past ten days,” said MP Iqbal Safai.
 
Some lawmakers also threw stringent criticism on the government leaders, including President Ashraf Ghani and his CEO Abdullah Abdullah.
 
“Stanekiza, Ghani and Abdullah are the killers of each son of this country,” said one MP Lalai Hamidzai.
 
“For how long do we have to be firewood, for how long do we have to bear the lashings and for how long we should remain silent,” stated MP Khalilullah Shaheedzada.
