Foreign Hands Behind Kandahar Guesthouse Attack: Atmar

The National Security Advisor Mohammad Hanif Atmar, who visited Kandahar on Wednesday with a fact-finding team to probe the recent blast in the province, has said foreign elements allegedly plotted Tuesday’s deadly attack on the Kandahar guesthouse.

He said that explosive materials used in the attack were brought into the country from beyond the borders.

“This is an act of enemy which involves the help of a foreign hands. The materials which were used in the attack, are not produced in Afghanistan,” he said.

Atmar also confirmed that mistakes were committed that failed to prevent attacks such as the one in Kabul on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a number of residents in the southern province of Kandahar have called on government to carry out a thorough investigation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the explosives had been produced outside the country and smartly placed in the Kandahar guesthouse.

“The issue on how they (insurgents) managed to enter the guesthouse and place the materials there, it is a very important question which should be answered after the investigation,” Atmar added.

Tuesday night’s explosion took place at a gathering of high-ranking provincial officials and UAE diplomats.

In total 11 people were killed and 16 others were wounded.

The officials had reportedly gathered at the guesthouse for a dinner.
